(They/ Them)
(They/ Them)
An Interplay of emotion, motivation, and lived experience : stories bind, expand and transmit. Visual storytelling requires transmitter and receiver to work in tandem using mental models and metaphors, evoking primal myths and archetypes to cultivate empathy. Inviting the audience to remember that everybody has a story and creating a space in which people can tell their own. My work constructs new communities, and brings people together in a temporary social group through collective experience and shared creative engagement. My participants generally have a similar relationship to capital, they survive by acquiring a wage, but have been divided through their identities and the structures that oppress and marginalise them in different ways and to different degrees. My work seeks to transgress those divides through the radical act of storytelling and the broadening of political coalition. I create spaces of bold vulnerability that model a possible mode of organising. How could the struggle balance the emotional and the material in more intrinsic and humane ways, broaden its demographic make-up, and inject a new class understanding into a word increasingly focussed on what divides us? |
